Their lies, First encounter (2)

Chapter 2, Help

After Masky had left the room, I became curious about what other rooms there were in the mansion. I did what anyone would do, and went exploring. The room I was staying in didn’t have a sign on the door like lots of the other rooms. I walked past Jeff and Ben’s room and Jane and Nina’s room when I found a door without a sign. Being the stupid person I am I opened the door. What I saw scared the fuck out of me. The room had piles of fresh corpses, piled as high as the roof. I felt something tenderly touch my shoulder. I squeeled in fear, just to find EJ behind me. “You scared the fucking shit out of me!”. He looked at me (I don’t know if he could see me or not). “That’s the thing with us”, he bent his head down and whispered “We’re murderers.”

It took a while for it to hit me, but when it did,it felt like I’d been hit by a truck. I looked up at him, I felt broken inside. “B-but, y-you seem so nice” I stuttered “How could someone so nice be someone so mean at the same time” I sounded stupid, but I now understood why Masky felt so insecure about the way he looked. I ran back to my room, shut the door and hid underneath the bed. I lay there crying. Everything seemed wrong, but I now realise how obvious it was. It had been five minutes later when Masky came into the room. I tried to stay as quiet as I could. I covered my mouth, trying to stiffle my sobs. He started talking. “Look, I know you’re in here Kathrin, I’m sorry, I should have told you at the very beginning what we were”. I didn’t say anything, my body stopped working again. “Kathrin, I’m not gonna force you, but please come out of you’re hiding place”. I couldn’t come out of my dark heaven, I felt broken, like an old record. “Please come out, I promise, I’ll explain everything”. I wanted to know everything, I had to speak up. “I’m down here, I’m not coming out, but I-I want to know what’s going on”.

What I heard came at me, once again, I felt as if I’d been hit by a truck. I came out of my hiding place and collapsed on the bottom bunk. I feel like I’m going to pass out. I sat up, my body went limp. All I could think of was my childhood. I kept remembering the time I followed my father to work, I stared as I saw him pull out a gun, pull the trigger, kill an innocent human. The tears keep coming, it’s as if they’re endless. Masky sat next to me, he wrapped his arms around me. He felt, warm. “I’m really sorry Kathrin, but we both know that the past can’t be erased, can’t be changed”. I hugged him back, I had stopped crying but I was still broken. “At least I’m not the only ones with secrets”. Masky looked at me,he grinned. “If I’ve told you my secret, you should tell me your’s, if I can trust you, you should trust me”. We stopped hugging, I didn’t know what to tell him, or did I…

“You really want to know”, I looked at him, he nodded. “I’m… not exactly a human”. Masky looked at me as if that was the worst secret he heard. “I’m not a demon either”. Now he looks surprised. “The reason I’m called Kathrin is because I’m a cat hybrid”. Masky just stares at me. I pull down my hood and show him my ears. “Wow… I don’t know if this is offensive or not but… can I feel them?”.

I almost died! I know that he’s unaware of the unspoken rule but that didn’t stop my face from going as red as a fucking tomato. “That’s gonna be a hard no, sorry but there’s an unspoken rule about that”. He started smiling again, I might be screwed. “Well, it’s unspoken, so nobody talks about it, in my head that means it’s not a rule”. His fingers stroke my ears like you would a cat. I started feeling warm, then hot. I pushed him away. “Listen Masky, you wouldn’t understand why you shouldn’t”. It’s getting too hot, I took off my hoodie and then Masky sees my tail. “What about your tail?”. I’m so fucking screwed if he starts touching that. “It’s the same with my tail, touch that and I’ll go into heat-” I gasp, did I say that out loud… I did. Masky put his hands up as if surrendering. “I-I did’t realise, s-sorry about that”.

Later that night, I was running. Running as fast as my legs could. He was chasing me. By he I mean my father. We were in the woods, there was no clearing. It was as if I was running in circles. He got closer and closer until… A pit opened up just below me, I was falling, falling, falling. I woke up screaming, luckily Jane had told me the walls were soundproof. But Masky heard everything. He hung down from the top bunk, looking at me.“You alright, you kept screaming something about … monsters”. I sat up, dazed and tired. I knew it was all a dream, but the pain was all too real. “Y-yeah, it’s just a dream, I’m not gonna die… not anymore”. I tried to go back to sleep but it’s almost impossible to go back to sleep after you have a screaming nightmare.
