Chapter 5, Deathmatch
I woke up, but… I thought I was dead. I look up to see Masky, running. Running through the forest. “Where are we?” He looked down at me and stopped. He put me down and took his mask off. “We’re in the forest, and you’re in my arms.” I was so overjoyed. I lunged at him and hugged him tight. “Thank you so much, for everything.” He kissed me and for once in my life I felt safe. We heard an explosion in the background. I whispered “Friends first”. We ran back to the shack to see all our friends held by the neck. What could we do? I finally knew the purpose of my demons. “I didn’t want anyone to see me like this but… I guess I have no choice.” I stepped closer and closer to Jack’s back. “I guess the world does always laugh at pain, doesn’t it?” Jack turns his head but before he could speak, I impale him and pull out his heart.
“Kathrin, what are you doing!” I could hear Masky shouting to me from behind. But I couldn’t reply. I was busy lending a hand. I took it and placed it on the ground. Then I cut my arm just enough to make me bleed. I made a pentagram around the still beating heart. “You wanna know what I’m doing, I’m summoning a little… help.” The pentagram started to glow a deep red. The ground opened up and the heart fell inside the endless cavern, leading to hell. Suddenly, there was a pickup in the wind, fallen leaves swirling along with the wind. Sharp pains rose in my back, nothing I wasn’t used to though. Just then, devil’s wings and horns ripped and shredded their way trough my skin. I screamed to ease the pain. Everyone was watching me, I can’t fuck this up.
The wind stopped, I opened my eyes and… it worked. My inner demons have set themselves free. My feet touch the ground. My father starts talking. “So… you show yourself once again… Evilyn.” I am Evilyn… I am a demon… I want to… kill Zalgo. “Father, you’ve forced me to do this, I really don’t want to… but I’d love to kill for you.” He smiled as I hovered towards him. I was smiling, laughing even. “That is.. kill you, for you.” I started singing again. It’s not any old song though. My mother, taught me this song if I ever needed to go against anything too powerful for the normal ones. She said ‘Remember, only use this when your demon side is out, it takes to much power if you’re a cat’. I still her words, so soft and fragile. So… flamable. “Even by burning down your mother you still remember her words… I’m as disappointed as I’ll ever be.”
I looked up when the song was done. “I, don’t need, your approval… I need your head on a fucking platter.” I hold out my hand and my scythe drops in. I jump up behind him and get the sharp end to his throat. “Bring it on… Eve.” I felt something at my throat, a small dagger, just touching my skin. We were literally at each others throats. That’s when it started. The hole grew wider and wider. Everything was falling in, everyone was falling in. I dropped my scythe and tried to fly, but I couldn’t. The hole was sucking everything in like a vacume. I was stuck in the air, using all of my strength to stay out.
I looked down, Masky was backing away. Friends first… I dove down, but it was too late.
Everyone had been sucked in, the hole was closing fast. I had to dive in. I dropped down as fast as I could, falling through the hole just in time. I was falling, falling, falling. I could see everyone else. They looked… lifeless, dead almost. I flew over to one of the bodies, it was Sally. “Why’d you get dragged into this, a little girl like you should be playing dollies…” I looked around. Nobody belonged here. This was all my fault.
I thought I could take on my father. But trying only made things worse and worse…
