Chapter 9, The outcome
Magic was in the air, powerful magic. Dark, powerful magic that no one could stop even if they wanted to. There was a moment of silence and then… a thunderous yell came from nearby. That would have been father. The ground shook, and I could hear the sound of rocks being pulled from the ground. As we looked up, we saw what appeared to be a giant demon coming slowly towards us. I think we’re all gonna die, maybe we will. Who knows what’s in the books for us today, or tomorrow. Suddenly, a rock came hurling right at us, I couldn’t move, I was too weak to go anywhere. I was stuck there, like a broken twig, I couldn’t be of any use anymore. I felt the full blown force of the rock, it’s sharp edges sliced open my skin. I thought I was going to fall over but… I stayed strong and kept my ground.
I started walking, stumbling but walking. Walking turned to pacing, pacing turned to running. My body was hurting like hell, but I limped on, determind to get away from the danger. I eventually caught up with the others, despite my slowness. We were all running now, I looked back… father was right behind us. Ater more running, we hid behind a large building. “How far will that son of a bitch go to see us dead!?” Jeff was getting pissed off. It felt as if I was being pierced by the firey spears of regret, I knew what to do. “Kathrin, where the fuck do you think you’re going!” I could hear Masky call out from behind, but I kept going. I walked out from behind the building. Holding my shattered side. I was right in front of father, or should I say… Zalgo.
“You bitch, where do you think you’re gonna hide now.” Zalgo was furious, but I didn’t care. All I could think was ‘ It’s time for me to save my friends’. I stood up straight and spread my arms out. “You want me dead… well bring it on fucker!” I yelled back, grinning, smiling, laughing even. Had I gone insane? I watched, a grim look on my face, as he pulled out rocks from the ground. I’m going to die now, this is really the end, isn’t it. This is not another fluke, no luck, nothing will save me now. “Bring it on you son of a bitch!” Evilyn had joined my side, he hated us both, but I couldn’t let her die. She’s far too young, well… by five minutes anyway.
Down came the rocks, I had to do it. “Evilyn, run!”. I pushed her away just enough to get her behind the wall. “Kathrin!” I could hear her screams as she was held back. I turned to face the rocks, but too late. It felt as if everything went in slow motion. The rocks, colliding with my skin, shredding it as if it was paper. The screams, piercing so close by, yet so distant at the same time. The blood, spurting out like a water fountain, almost endless. The pain, searing through my body, so much yet so little at the same time. I saw all my memories flash by my eyes, so close by yet too far too hold. I collapsed, ruble pouring down on me like bullets from a loaded gun.
I knew it now… this is the end, the end of me. There is no possibility I can survive that, no one can. This is the end. I might as well just give up, but there’s something inside of me that just won’t let go of life. What could possibly want to hold on to this shit life. Him… his memories are the ones holding on. The one who told the others, the one who’s been watching me all this time. No, this can’t be the end. The shower of rocks had ended. ‘Just play dead, don’t move a muscle’. I could hear Evilyn, her screams were so loud… but I couldn’t risk opening my eyes. I heard the swishing of a metal blade, discreetly opening my eye, I saw a blade sticking out of Zalgo’s elbow. I opened my eyes fully. I looked at Evilyn, idiot… she’s the one who threw the blade. But apparently… that was enough. Zalgo collapsed right infront of me. I sat up, edging away from him. “K-Kathrin…” I looked to the others, wincing from all the damage I took. It was… him. I had lost too much blood.
I fell back, darkness filled my vision.
